As part of my residency with Scottish Canals I spent a lot of time walking the towpath of my favourite canal -The Crinan Canal.
The crinan's 9 mile route has a panoramic quality; the towpath often lies between the sea and the canal. This seemed to demand long horizontal compositions when I came to paint this series.
Beside Crinan Swing Bridge is Puddler's Cottage, named as part of a lock keepers job was to mix clay with water and puddle or trod it into any leaks or cracks on the embankment.
